Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is a cryptocurrency that originated in 2017 as a fork of Bitcoin, created to emphasize on-chain payments with lower fees and higher transaction capacity. Its design follows the UTXO model and Proof of Work (PoW) consensus, using a network of miners to validate blocks and secure the chain. Compared with Bitcoin, BCH has focused on increasing block size and keeping transactions relatively inexpensive, which shapes its role as a payments-oriented asset rather than a platform for complex smart contract activity.

The project’s main use case is peer-to-peer transfers, merchant payments, and everyday transactions where fast settlement and low costs matter. BCH is also used in remittances and in regions where access to traditional payment infrastructure is limited. While it does not have the same DeFi or smart contract ecosystem depth as Layer 1 networks built for programmability, it remains positioned as a practical alternative for digital cash use. Its ecosystem includes wallets, payment processors, and community-driven development centered on maintaining transaction efficiency and network reliability.
